Software Licenses

In our commitment to foster advancement and dissemination of knowledge in the field of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), particularly in the development of interaction techniques in Virtual Reality (VR), we have decided to share our developments openly and collaboratively. Our intention in doing so is not commercial, but purely educational, with the aim of promoting learning, research, and the exchange of ideas within our community.

We deeply value the contribution of the community to our work, and thus have chosen to license our creations under various open-source licenses. These licenses allow other users to benefit from our work, provided certain conditions reflecting our philosophy of sharing and collaborating are met.

We would like to emphasize that we are open to collaborations, feedback, and suggestions from the community. If you decide to use our developments in your projects, we strongly encourage you to give us credit and, if possible, share your improvements and contributions with us and other community members.

Below, we detail the licenses we have selected for each part of our software:

• The HOM3R-Engine library is distributed under the LGPL 2.1 (Lesser General Public License version 2.1). This license is suitable for software libraries, allowing our code to be used in projects both open-source and closed-source. However, any modifications made to the library must be shared under terms compatible with the LGPL, preserving users' freedom.
• The HOM3R-Viewer code is distributed under the GNU v3 (General Public License version 3). This license ensures that our software is made available to the general public for free. Additionally, it requires that any modification or derivative made from the software also be shared under the same terms, thus promoting collaboration and knowledge exchange.
• The compiled versions of the viewer are distributed with the Apache License. The Apache License is a permissive license that allows users to use, modify, and distribute our software freely, for both commercial and non-commercial purposes. While it does not require modifications to be shared under the same terms, we encourage users to contribute back to the community whenever possible.
